Meskel Eve: Demera Bonfire Ceremony in Meskel Square (2,355m)

Arrive in Addis Ababa. In the afternoon, head to Meskel Square to attend the UNESCO-inscribed Demera ceremony commemorating Empress Helena's discovery of the True Cross in the 4th century. Watch religious processions of deacons in gold satin robes, choir songs, and the lighting of the towering conical Demera bonfire at dusk as sparks illuminate the night sky.
