Arrive in Addis Ababa, the vibrant capital of Ethiopia, and begin your journey with a guided city tour. Visit the National Museum of Ethiopia, home of the famous fossil “Lucy” and rich archaeological treasures. Fly Addis Ababa to Bahirdar and short drive you to Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile, where life revolves around the lake and you will find the local fishermen at work in traditional papyrus reed boats. An afternoon hike takes you to the beautiful Tis Isat Falls, also known as the Blue Nile Falls. Overnight stay Jacaranda Hotel.

After breakfast, fly from Bahir Dar to Gondar, the “Camelot of Africa,” and transfer to your hotel upon arrival. Visit the UNESCO-listed Royal Enclosure (Fasil Ghebbi) and the famous Debre Berhan Selassie Church, known for its iconic ceiling of angelic faces. From Addis Ababa or Gondar, you will be met at the airport or hotel and drive about two hours to Debark to process park permits and meet your scout. Continue another hour into the Simien Mountains before starting an easy introductory hike along the escarpment with stunning views of the northern plains. Along the trail, you may encounter Gelada baboons and enjoy rich wildlife viewing in their natural habitat. End the day with an overnight stay at Sankaber.

Embark on a trek to Buwahit, the second-highest peak in the Simien Mountains at 4,430 meters, enjoying spectacular highland scenery along the way. During the hike, you may spot the endemic Walia Ibex and admire distant views of Ras Dashen, Ethiopia’s highest peak at 4,543 meters. After descending to Chenek Camp, drive approximately four hours back to Gondar for an overnight stay at Haile Resort.

Fly to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lalibela - the Jerusalem of Ethiopia, and Africa own Petra . In a fitting finale to your Ethiopian adventure, explore the monolithic red-hued churches incredibly carved into the rock. Your guide will lead you through the network of crevices and tunnels linking each of the churches.
